Born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, Marquis Hill has become an internationally acclaimed artist known for breaking down musical barriers. From winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition to leading his celebrated group, the Blacktet, Hill blends jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and soul into a sound that is both rooted in tradition and fearlessly contemporary. His music reflects the vast universe of African-American creative heritage—“different branches of the same tree.”
