OUR VISION

A vibrant community united by art and culture—where creativity ignites, curiosity thrives, and live performance brings us closer together.

OUR VALUES

We champion art, artists, and the transformative power of live performance. Grounded in the belief that global is local, and local is global, we build community where everybody belongs.

OUR STORY

When BioMed Realty decided to build an advanced lab and office building in the heart of Kendall Square, they made a commitment to the cultural side of the most technologically innovative neighborhood on the planet. Through interviews and discovery sessions with community members and arts organizations, a shared vision emerged: one of the most exciting performing arts initiatives Boston has seen in decades.

Planning began on a 45,000-sq-ft performing arts center where art meets science meets community. BioMed recognized that to realize this vision, they needed an experienced presenter with deep roots in culturally diverse programming. Enter Global Arts Live, the Cambridge nonprofit that for more than thirty years has brought extraordinary music and dance from around the world to stages across Greater Boston. Together, they launched an unprecedented collaboration: 585 Arts Inc., doing business as The Platform.

The Platform—a center of art, culture, and community—will support a rich schedule of programming showcasing a wide spectrum of artistic expression. Onethird of the programming will be curated by Global Arts Live, featuring both local and global musical artists and contemporary dance companies.

The remaining time, The Platform’s two stages and professional rehearsal studio will be available for rent by artists, community members, and cultural organizations to create and present their work. Subsidized nonprofit and community rental rates, supported by Global Arts Live fundraising, ensure broad access. In addition, 25 rental nights each year will be offered at no cost to community organizations through an application and panel review process.

JAE and construction

Serving as a living room for the neighborhood and a gathering place for audiences across Cambridge, greater Boston, and beyond, The Platform strengthens the social and cultural fabric of the region—bringing people together through the power of live performance.

more than a stage

We are a platform for supporting artists and nonprofits; a platform for work that expands our perspectives; a platform for culture, connection, and conversation.
