Assisted Listening Devices (ALDs)
Assisted Listening Devices (ALDs) are available free of charge for all performances at The Platform.
ALDs may be used with either a neck loop lanyard or a universal ear speaker, depending on the patron’s needs.
Neck Loop Lanyard: Best suited for patrons who use hearing aids or cochlear implants equipped with a telecoil (T-coil). The neck loop connects to an infrared (IR) receiver and transmits sound directly to the hearing device.
Universal Ear Speaker: A single-ear speaker that allows patrons to hear the performance while remaining aware of ambient sounds. It can be used with some hearing aids and connects to an IR receiver.
We recommend requesting an ALD in advance. Please contact Audience Services at info@theplatformkendall.org or 617-999-0500.
ALDs are also available on the day of the performance.
- For Takeda Theater performances, devices may be obtained at the coat check desk.
- For Tempo Stage performances, devices are available through the House Manager.
Guests borrowing an ALD may be asked to leave a driver’s license or another form of identification for the duration of the performance.
American Sign Language (ASL)
American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation can be requested for any performance at The Platform. To request ASL interpretation, please contact our Audience Services team at info@theplatformkendall.org.
Requests should be submitted at least two to three weeks before the performance date. While we make every effort to accommodate all requests, ASL interpreter availability cannot be guaranteed. Requests received closer to the performance date may be more difficult to fulfill.
Service Animals
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals and service animals in training are welcome at all performances at The Platform. Service animals must remain harnessed, leashed, or otherwise under the handler’s control at all times.
To help us provide the best possible experience, patrons are encouraged to note the presence of a service animal when purchasing tickets online or to notify Audience Services in advance.
Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) are not permitted in the venue.
Sensory Accessibility
Patrons with sensory sensitivities are encouraged to contact Audience Services prior to their visit to discuss available accommodations and to inquire about potential production elements such as loud sound effects, haze, fog, or strobe lighting.
Accessible Program Formats
Large-print and Braille programs may be available for select performances. We recommend requesting accessible program formats in advance by contacting Audience Services at info@theplatformkendall.org or 617-999-0500.
Accessibility at the Takeda Theater
For a complete view of accessible seating options, please refer to the seating map for the Takeda Theater at The Platform.
Elevator/Stair Access
Elevator access is available from The Platform’s main level to the Takeda Theater lobby and upper-level seating entrance.
Patrons may access all seats in Row D and Boxes 1 and 2 directly from the lobby entrance without using stairs.
Patrons may access all seats in Rows P and Q and Box 12 directly from the upper-level entrance without using stairs.
Restrooms
Accessible restrooms are located in the Takeda Theater lobby. The lobby includes two multi-stall restrooms, each with an accessible stall, as well as two accessible all-gender single-user restrooms.
Three additional accessible all-gender single user restrooms are available on the third floor for upper-level seating and those seated in Box 12.
Wheelchair-Accessible Seating
The Takeda Theater has six wheelchair-accessible seating locations in Row D, accessible from the theater lobby. Each location includes three designated companion seats: one adjacent seat in Row D and two seats directly in front in Row C.
One wheelchair-accessible seating location is also available in Box 12, accessible from the upper-level entrance, with three designated companion seats located adjacent to it.
Companion seats may be purchased along with accessible seating locations, subject to availability. Additional nearby seating may be available depending on the performance.
Seats with Moveable Armrests
The Takeda Theater features four seats with moveable armrests that facilitate easier transfers from a wheelchair or mobility device. Two seats are located in Row D and two seats are located in Row P, with one seat on each aisle.
Bariatric Seating
The Takeda Theater offers seven bariatric chairs, which provide additional seating width and comfort. These chairs are located at the theater’s wheelchair-accessible seating locations, with six in Row D and one in Box 12.
Director’s Chairs (Row Q)
Row Q features padded wooden director’s chairs with armrests. Because these seats are elevated, patrons must step up to sit in them. Guests with mobility limitations may find these seats more difficult to access than standard theater seating.
Accessibility at the Tempo Stage
Entrance
Tempo Stage is accessible through the entrance located at 315 Kendall Street. The seating area can be accessed without the use of stairs. Ramps are available for patrons accessing seating in the lower section of the theater.
Restrooms
Accessible restrooms are located in The Platform lobby, next to the box office and adjacent to the elevators.
Accessible Seating
Seating at Tempo Stage is general admission and includes both bench seating and table seating. While specific seating types cannot be reserved in advance, table seating will be made available for patrons who use wheelchairs or require accessible seating.
Bench seating is elevated, and patrons with mobility limitations may find these seats more difficult to access than table seating.
We recommend that patrons requiring accessible seating for Tempo Stage performances contact Audience Services in advance to discuss their needs and help ensure appropriate accommodations can be made.
